o   Policy Committee on Professional Affairs Recommendations

1) Rescind IPA policy 14‐R1.

2) Reaffirm IPA policies 09‐R1 and 06‐U2.

3) IPA supports recognition of pharmacists as eligible professionals (EPs) for established meaningful use standards.

4) IPA supports appropriate and equitable compensation for pharmacists’ contribution to achieving meaningful use standards.

5) IPA supports effective integration and bidirectional exchange of electronic clinical and medication information in order to achieve meaningful use standards.

6) IPA supports advocacy and education to key stakeholders regarding pharmacy’s role in the meaningful use of health information technology.

o   Policy Committee on Public Affairs Recommendations

1) IPA supports mandatory incorporation and payment of pharmacist‐provided clinical services in the delivery of health care to patients enrolled in managed care organizations (MCOs).  

2) IPA supports access for any Iowa pharmacy provider to participate in all aspects of care included in MCO care models.  

3) IPA supports consistent provision of pharmacy benefits across multiple MCOs for Iowa Medicaid or other state‐based payers.  

4) IPA supports the active involvement of Iowa pharmacists and other Iowa healthcare providers in the development and oversight of formulary management, pricing policy, and other pharmacy benefit management strategies within state‐based MCO services.  

5) IPA supports appropriate state‐based regulatory oversight and accountability of MCOs and any contracted pharmacy benefits manager to assure patient health outcomes.

o   Also lots of discussion on zero tolerance and best way to handle opioid abuse in pharmacy personnel

·         Motivational Lunch – Dr. Richard Deming

o   Des Moines based oncologist discussing his spiritual journey of taking cancer survivors to physically demanding locations such as Machu Pichu, Everest Base Camp, Race Across America Bike Ride, Mount Kilamanjaro etc…

o   Started the organization Above+Beyond Cancer

·         Poster Presentation

o   Discussed my poster and talked to a faculty member who is trying to start a Medical Spanish class at Drake University.

·         Awards Ceremony

o   Bowl of Hygeia awarded to Hartig Drug Pharmacist in a very moving presentation.

·         Silent Auction

o   I bid and won 5 pharmacy books J
