Compounding

So far I have had the opportunity to help compound several prescriptions during my APPE community rotation.  This has included utilizing geometric dilution to make a large quantity of topical cream and also to compound magic mouthwash.

I also looked up expiration dates for non-sterile products which are as follows:
Beyond-Use Dating for Compounded Nonsterile Preparations
Temp
low risk
single sterile components
medium risk
use multiple sterile components
high risk
use non-sterile components
room
48 hours
30 hours
24 hours
fridge
14 days
7 days
3 days
freezer
45 days

For oral aqueous refrigerated formulations the beyond use date is 14 days
For topical aqueous formulations the beyond use date is 30 days
For nonaqueous formulations the beyond use date is 6 months
