Durable medical equipment is
any equipment use to improve a patient’s quality of life and includes items
such as canes, crutches, nebulizers, walkers, and wheelchairs. Today, I had the opportunity to get trained
on how to properly use a cane, crutches, and walkers. This is especially valuable information
because I never realized that there is a correct way to use these items and now
I feel more confident in my ability to help patients use these items correctly. Durable medical equipment is covered under
Medicare Part B as long as the durable medical equipment is durable, used for a medical reason, not
usually useful to someone who isn’t sick or injured, and used in the home. More
information about durable medical equipment can be found here: http://www.medicare.gov/what-medicare-covers/part-b/durable-medical-equipment.html
