Recently a
new law passed to regulate hydrocodone combination products (such as Vicodin, Lortab
and generics) as Schedule II controlled substances. This will go into effect on
October 6th, 2014. Starting on this date, prescriptions for these products
will need a new written prescription for each 30 day supply. If you need a
refill, your doctor will have to write a new prescription for you to take to
the pharmacy. If needed, your doctor can write three separate prescriptions at
the same time. These will have to have a "do not fill until after a certain date" written on them, for up to a potential 90 day supply. This is the same process for other current
Schedule II controlled substances.
